43^rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control

Early Career Development: Role of NSF and CSS

Since its inception in 1950, the U.S. National Science Foundation has invested in research and education in all aspects of science and engineering. The goal of this special session is to inform students attending the CDC about several programs currently supported by the National Science Foundation. In particular, the CAREER program dealing with early career development and the GOALI program dealing with industry-university interactions will be discussed. The IEEE Control Society (CSS), established in 1954, is the premier technical society for the promotion of control systems engineering. The session will also describe the many opportunities offered by the IEEE CSS for networking and career enhancement that students can take advantage of in their pursuit of a career in control systems engineering.

On Thursday December 16th (8:30-9:30am) there will be a special Plenary Panel Discussion - Challenges and Opportunities for the Future of Control and we would like collect questions from the community for the panel to discuss. To submit a question click here.

All session rooms will be equipped with both LCD and overhead projectors. Speakers will have to bring their own PCs.

To celebrate the 50^th Anniversary of the IEEE CSS, polo shirts have been made with both the CSS and IEEE logos stitched into them. From now until the conference, these shirts can be purchased on-line for the low price of $20 (U.S.) each. The Social & Recreational Activities page has been updated with some additional information about the social and recreational activities that will take place at the conference.

The advance registration period for the conference has passed. While it is still possible to use the on-line registration system (at http://www.paperplaza.net) to register, the conference registration fee will be charged at the higher "regular" rate. Although it may no longer be possible to get the CDC reduced room rate (but it can't hurt to ask), there should be no difficulty getting a room at the Atlantis hotel. See the hotel reservations page for details.

The 44^th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control will be held jointly with the 2005 European Control Conference in Seville, Spain, December 12-15, 2005.
